February Updates

We lost our 14 mos. old cat to an incurable infectous desease called FIP. There is very little know about the disease, and even less about how to accurately diagnose it before death. If you are a cat owner, you might consider donating to the Orion Foundation.
The photograpy business is picking up. So much so that I am in the process of re-building a traditional wet darkroom for fiber based printing
I am also rediscovering the joys of getting up at 5AM for early morning hikes with my camera and using a newly acquired 55mm Macro lens.

In Mourning

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever; I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood,
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

Content Updates via RSS

This is just a quick update on what's going on with me and the site. I have basically given up blogging due to a lack of time. More often than not I am finding articles of interest and tagging them via del.icio.us or posting them exclusively via RSS.

The most recent change is that I am now actively marketing my photography via cafepress.

If you are interested in finding out what's going on, you might want to consider subscibing to one of my RSS feeds below:

For those few who read my posts via RSS readers, the new public feeds are as follows:

Top Features
User Experience
Photography
del.icio.us

If you still want the full meal deal offered by the old RSS feed, you will need to get in touch with me and request an account (free of course).

We're live

It took a little longer than I would have liked, but the new site is here. A lot has changed visually and from a content posting perspective. Essentially this site is more about my work – User Experience and Photography and less about blogging about every little thing that tickles my fancy.

As time goes on you are going to see more of the following:

Splitting of my RSS feeds into 3 individual feeds depending upon your interest (User Experience, Photography, and del.icio.us)
Renewed focus on User Experience topics based upon recent research and projects
Detailed Case Studies
Featured Portfolio Samples
Fine Art Photography from my 20+ year catalog of work

Update: The Shape of Things to Come

The bees have been very busy behind the scenes since December. Behind a few locked doors I have the new version of the site in active development. All that remains is a few template conversions and a few final color changes to the design.

With any luck and some available free time, this space will change in the next two weeks.

I have been doing a lot of thinking about what I want to do with this space lately. I have even looked back at previous versions of this site going back to the pre-Blogger/MovableType days of 1997-8...(ewwwe).

After all this reflection, I think I know what I am going to do with this space now. Without revealing too much, I think I can just show you with this preliminary wireframe (© 2004 artfernandez.com).

Since everything is not up in this image, the rest is up to you to interpret exactly what I have in mind here. I am not going to share everything, that wouldn't be very fun or exciting.

The End of The Blog

It has been 4 years...4 years of solid (almost) non-stop blogging. My blog is tired. I am tired.

So, it is time to do something more interesting with this space. I don't know what that is going to be, but it sure won't be a blog.

Let's not call this goodbye, but a very long hiatus.
