Happy Halloween
Thanks to Rhonda, I ran accross a great little article by the New York Times suggesting that the Salem witch trials could be linked to post war trauma. Interesting ideas in there...check it out.

blogger is nearly exterminated
Yep, I almost have blogger extracted from this site. There's just a few more templates that need to be created and the switch will be turned on the new site.
Somber Mood
Well, the Giants lost as I am sure you all know if you watched the game or opened up the sports section this morning. That is utterly depressing. To have a team come so close to winning it in game 6 and then lose it....man, it sucks.
The mood around the city is pretty somber. I will be eating crow served by my father later this evening. He and I had a friendly bet going on concerning who would win.
Both of us are SF fans, but he has seen enough Giants near misses in the last +60 years and remembers the last time they won a series to have perspective. Considering the man saw the San Francisco Seals play before there was MLB on the west coast, I guess I should have listened.
I will also be calling my friend Eric in So. Cal to congratulate him. During the series he and I would be calling each other after our respective teams pulled ahead of the other during the games.
It could be worse for the Giants and myself. The Giants could have lost 5 straight and I could have been forced to squeel like a monkey.
It seems like a Greek tragedy. The Giants last won a series before moving out west. They have lost ever since. Hey, there's always next year.

Of databases and movable type
Well, right around the 7th inning when the Giants 5 run lead started to evaporate, I managed to get a new mysql database running and finish configuring movable type. Right after that the game went to hell and I lost all focus until the last pitch. In anycase I am actively working on following through on my threat to ditch blogger after they were hacked yesterday. I only need to configure imagemagick for thumbnail scaling and I can begin to port it all over.
After 4 innings of being in the lead the Giants lost! Somehow I feel totally wronged here. Both the Angels and the Giants are great teams and both equally deserve to win the series, but to come from behind and then win at the end...man, I am bummed.

blogger hacked
Today's announcement that Blogger was hacked has motivated me to do something different with this site. At a bare minimum I am going move away from blogger as a web content tool and to something that is totally hosted on my OS X PowerBook webserver under my desk. (That trusty 4 yr old laptop has served me well).
If I feel energetic enough, I will redesign and repurpose this site. After running a public weblog for 2 years it is getting a tad stale.
...some rumblings from my mind.

Coffee and a Wireless Hotspot
I finally broke down and did it. I signed up for a T-mobile hot spot account to be wireless accross Starbuck's retail locations. Not that I am a huge fan of Starbucks... Actually I prefer Peet's locally and ship coffee in from the Northcoast. However, there are times when I am travelling or working offsite that I need a high-speed internet connect. All you need is a 802.11 (Airport) card and a laptop to get in the door.
Yes, I am truly a wired geek. There's no saving me now.
October 23, 2002
I have to admit that the lack of postings has been an indication of just how busy I have been over the last 6 mos. A few vacations to the mountains and the East Coast, plus several projects have left me... well, drained.
In fact, I just got back from a trip to Maine for change of season and a weeklong User Experience conference that was held in Boston. The trip was both relaxing and very educational. The trip has basically made up my mind that the East Coast is the next logical step for us to relocate to. A cabin in Maine for the summer/fall, and a place in the Northeast for the remainder of the year.
On a totally unrelated note, the Giants won tonight.
